Question: Define Hypocrisy. Answer: Harry Reid on Audit the Fed

After Ron Paul told Ben Bernanke last week that “the Congress must audit you” it would appear that the rest of Congress agreed. This week Ron Paul’s tireless 30 year effort to get the Federal Reserve audited was rewarded when the Congress passed Paul’s simple one page bill.

It passed easily 327 to 98, with all but one Republican voting for the Audit. But don’t think this was just a Republican issue, some 89 Democrats also voted for the bill – making this one of the rare occasions where both sides of the aisle agreed.

So now the bill passes to the Senate, however there is one problem, Harry Reid who is the Senate majority leader for the democrats essentially controls what bills can and can’t come to the floor to be voted on. And he’s already come out and said that he will not let the Senate vote on the Audit the Fed bill.

All this would be fine if Reid had always been against an Audit of the Federal Reserve, but he hasn’t. In fact he has actually been one of the very few politicians in America to have called for an audit himself. Here’s Reality Check’s Ben Swan (for our mind the best journalist operating in America today) to explain:

So there you have it folks, just another politician who will say one thing then turn around and do the complete opposite when it is politically expedient to do so. It is this sort of action by politicians (of all strips) that people have become completely fed-up with and have people wondering why they bother electing any of these principled-deficient-hypocrisy-flip-floppers in the first place.

Let’s hope that enough pressure can be bought on Reid in the next few weeks to get this bill onto the floor of the Senate – because Ron Paul when asked if it would pass the Senate said “if it comes up for a vote it will pass”.
